The Atheist Child
Every child has the right to not believe in God. Your parents may be believers, and they may want you to believe, but you can choose to believe what feels right to you. I know this may make your parents unhappy. Whether you believe or not, you are a wonderful human being. You are not a bad person if you say “I don’t believe in God.” You are not going to hell. Heaven and hell are not real places. God is not real, just like Santa Claus is not real. They are both just stories. Here are some great books for kids who don’t believe in god.
In 1989, the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In Article 14, it states “States Parties shall respect the right of the child to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.” In other words, your parents, your school, the state, and everyone else must respect your right to make up your own mind about what you believe.
Children have the right to Unhindered Living as much as adults do. Do you need someone to talk to about your beliefs or non-belief? Send us email. Click “Contact” at the top or bottom of this page and send us a message.
Here are some things humanist or atheist kids are often interested in. Enjoy!
